CARLISLE, PA – July 25, 2003 – Today officials from GIANT Food Stores announced that they would open a new store in Bloomsburg, Pa. on Wednesday, July 30. The store has been relocated and will employ 120 associates in the Bloomsburg area. To celebrate the opening, GIANT will make a donation of $1,000 each to Bloomsburg Fire Department, Bloomsburg Police Department, Bloomsburg Volunteer Ambulance Association, Scott Township Police Department, Espy Fire Company, Bloomsburg Public Library and Bloomsburg Food Cupboard for a total of $7,000. “We’re thrilled to be expanding our services to better serve the Bloomsburg community,” said Dennis Hopkins, vice president of advertising and sales development. “At GIANT Food Stores, we pride ourselves in making shopping convenient for our customers. The Bloomsburg store will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and will highlight U-scan technology that allows customers to scan their own groceries for a faster checkout.” The 55,000 square foot store will also feature expanded entry and exit areas, a pharmacy, an array of fresh produce, and full-service deli, bakery, floral and meat/seafood departments. The new store is in the Scott Town Center at 1000 Scott Town Center in Bloomsburg. OTHER FEATURES:  A fresh new décor package and color scheme under enhanced lighting that gives the store and each department a distinctive look and feel.

 Special shopping carts with seats for children and motorized shopping carts for customers with disabilities.

 A produce department featuring a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, including locally grown produce and organic produce, plus an expansive salad bar.

 A service deli including a food court with seating area, international cheese island, and deliciously prepared foods such as Rotisserie chicken, Pannini’s Sandwiches and more.

 An expansive bakery offering an assortment of baked products, including a variety of desserts, hearth oven baked breads, Cinna-buns, and specialty cakes.

 A floral department highlighting fresh cut flowers and green flowering plants.

 A meat/seafood department showcasing a lobster tank and fresh quality meats.
