GIANT Food Stores Race into the Summer

Carlisle, PA  GIANT Food Stores has again this year joined forces with Pocono International Raceway as sponsor of the 200 mile Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) race at the Pennsylvania Super Speedway this summer. The race will be titled the GIANT 200 and will be contested on Saturday, July 31, 2004 as part of Pocono Raceways July 29-August 1 weekend of speed. The weekend culminates with the POCONO 500 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series event on Sunday August 1, 2004.

The GIANT 200 is part of the ARCA RE/MAX Series that is recognized as the leading auto racing series in the country. Drivers from across the nation compete in the ARCA RE/MAX Series. The ARCA RE/MAX Series is unique in that it tests the ability of drivers and race teams on the most diverse schedule of stock car racing events in the country.

GIANT is pleased to support the ARCA RE/MAX Series for the second year. Race fans are comprised of the same consumer base as GIANTs customers so it seems like this sponsorship is a natural fit for GIANT, says Denny Hopkins, vice president of advertising and public relations at GIANT. Leading up to the race, GIANT Food Stores will prominently offer consumer sweepstakes under the GIANT 200 sponsorship for three weeks beginning May 8. Consumers will have the chance to win cash prizes or an opportunity to take part in the track functions (such as flagger at the start of the race or the command of  Gentleman Start your engines). Additional prizes fulfilled by vendor participation will include race tickets, suites, t-shirts, jackets, hospitality events and a chance to be in Pepsis hospitality tent with Jeff Gordon. Consumers will enter the promotional sweepstakes by purchasing participating products using their BONUSCARD at any GIANT or MARTINS store.

Also, throughout the month of May and June stores will have scheduled show cars or simulator events. The show car schedule can be found on our website at www.giantpa.com.
