MARTIN'S FOOD MARKETS OPENS NEW ALTOONA LOCATION

Features one-stop shopping and the latest in supermarket technology

Altoona, PA - Martin's Food Markets opened the doors of its brand-new 62,000 square foot Altoona, PA location today, Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at 8:00 a.m. This new store, located at 200 E. Chestnut Avenue replaces the Martin's location at East 25th and Ivyside Drive in Altoona.

"This new location is a step towards the next generation of supermarkets, offering customers service, selection and savings for a one-stop shopping experience," said Craig Simpson, store manager. "Whether it's a supervised child play area, an increased health and wellness focus, or a strong emphasis on customer-friendly technology, we hope to provide solutions to our customers' everyday shopping needs."

Focus on Technology and Convenience

Martin's features new state-of-the-art technology that provides added convenience for a total value shopping experience. For customers on the go, EasyScan allows them to utilize six self-scanning units to expedite the checkout process. With EasyWeigh, customers weigh their produce, bulk food and other items within that department, making checkout quick and easy. Martin's self-service Shopping Solutions kiosks, which are conveniently located throughout the store, enable customers to perform numerous tasks - from printing out a tasty recipe to placing a deli order to refilling a prescription.

New to the Altoona area, the Tree House at Martin's features an on-site child play area where qualified staff supervise children ages 3 - 9 in a setting featuring games, toys and computers. All Tree House associates have knowledge in early childhood education and are trained in CPR and First Aid.

Focus on Health and Wellness

The store will also offer an expanded variety of products in the natural and organic categories through a dedicated section, Nature's Promise Marketplace, which will include more than 3,500 frozen, dairy, grocery and special diet selections. Martin's features a designated gluten-free product area located within Nature's Promise Marketplace. It includes a selection of foods available for customers on gluten-free diets due to celiac disease or other health concerns.

In addition, health and wellness information is available throughout the store on the interactive Shopping Solutions kiosks. Customers can also pick up one of Martin's Healthy Ideas brochures, which focus on a variety of common health topics such as diabetes, food allergies, ear infections and osteoporosis. These brochures feature health tips and action steps as well as nutritional information and recipes.

Store Features and Amenities

Customers will find that familiar features of the previous Altoona store have been upgraded and enhanced along with the addition of new features that will provide a more efficient, consumer-friendly shopping experience. Key departments such as bakery, deli, meat and seafood are set off with their own look and feel, giving unique identities to the various sections of the store. These departments include:

The Neighborhood Drugstore at Martin's - shoppers will find everything a local drugstore would carry and more! They can fill prescriptions at the in-store Pharmacy, choose from a wide selection of name-brand health and beauty products, and pick up Hallmark cards, popular toys, books, CDs and DVDs.

Corner Bakery Shoppe - featuring specialty cookies, and confections, upscale desserts, whipped cream desserts, artisan breads, award-winning cakes and donuts, and photo-imaging cakes.
