Fall Bag Hunger in-store campaign raises $500,325 for regional and local food banks
Carlisle, PA GIANT Food Stores and MARTIN'S Food Markets today announced a donation of $500,325 to fight hunger throughout its operation area as a result of the companies' annual Bag Hunger campaign. During the two-week Bag Hunger campaign, August 29 - September 11, customers could donate $1 at the checkout to benefit their local food bank. In addition, GIANT/MARTIN'S vendor partners also contributed a total of $45,000 in support of the campaign.
"The overwhelming generosity of our customers, associates and vendors resulted in our largest Bag Hunger campaign for local hunger relief efforts, allowing our regional and local food bank partners to provide thousands of more meals to those most in need in our communities," said Rick Herring, president. "With the holidays fast approaching, we continue to encourage everyone to do their part in the fight against hunger and support their local food banks and soup kitchens."
More than 85 regional food banks, local pantries and soup kitchens across Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia benefited from this year's campaign. Major recipient food banks of this year's Bag Hunger campaign include:

* St. Vincent DePaul Assumption Chapel Food Pantry, $6,772
