Whole Wheat Pasta

What’s not to love about pasta? It’s a classic comfort food that’s not only easy to prepare, but economical, too. And now, with all the whole wheat varieties available, pasta is a great way to meet the USDA’s recommendation of 14 grams of fiber per 1,000 calories consumed every day.

A diet rich in fiber may reduce the risk of many health problems, including cardiovascular disease. Whole wheat pasta is even more heart-healthy when paired with an array of fresh vegetables or beans. Sauces can range from a light toss of olive oil and herbs to a rich tomato sauce.

Read the labels on whole wheat pasta products, and aim for those that have at least 3 grams of fiber per 2 ounce dry serving. When increasing fiber in your diet, make sure to do so gradually and drink plenty of water to avoid upsetting your digestive system.
