Hispanic Heritage Month

In September 1968, President Lyndon B. Johnson proclaimed National Hispanic Heritage Week to celebrate the anniversary of independence for five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico declared its independence on September 16th and Chile on September 18th. In 1988, President Ronald Reagan expanded it to a month long celebration, from September 15th - October 15th, including Columbus Day on October 12th, and D'a de la Raza, commemorating the first immigration of Hispanics to the Americas.

MARTIN’S recognizes Hispanic Heritage Month as a time to honor and pay tribute to the ancestry and traditions that are unique to the Hispanic culture. This year, through our Hispanic Heritage Month Brochure, we will celebrate the legacy and contributions of four Latinos that have definitely made there mark in the history of the United States and the world.
