October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Important Information:

In the United States, one in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.  Nearly everyone is touched in some way by this disease, but there are steps you can take to lessen your risk:

  • Focus on fiber. Eat foods rich in fiber, especially those made with whole grains, to help reduce the risk of several cancers.
  • Find healthy fats. Meals containing olive oil or fish help protect against cancer, and avoiding fat from meat, dairy, and processed foods may decrease cancer risk.
  • Avoid alcohol. Use alcoholic beverages in moderation or not at all to reduce the risk of many cancers.
  • Eat Your Veggies. Lower cancer risk by eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, which will help maintain a healthy weight and immune system.
  • See Your Doctor. Regular visits to your healthcare provider for cancer screenings can lead to early detection, which is key in preventing cancer-related death.

When you walk through our stores in the month of October, you will notice many products featuring the pink ribbon. Through donations from our vendor partners, your purchase of these products, along with many others, can help raise awareness and continue the search for a cure.
