Shirley A. Martinez • Deputy Assistant Secretary Equal Opportunity • US Air Force • Served 1975 – 2005

In a military career that spans 30 years, Shirley Martinez began her federal career with the Air Force as a clerk-stenographer at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, which prepared her for future leadership positions in the Department of the Interior and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Washington D.C.
Prior to assuming the position of Deputy Assistant Secretary in 2001, Ms. Martinez was responsible for the litigation support and discrimination complaints at the San Antonio Air Logistics Center at Kelly AFB, Texas. She also served as chair of the District of Columbia Workgroup, which focuses on recruitment, retention and development of Hispanics in the federal government.

Shirley Martinez is dedicated to serving youth and promoting
leadership in civil rights, educational and religious organizations. Hispanic Business Magazine named her one of the Top 100 Latinas in 2003.

En una carrera militar que se extiende por 30 años, Shirley Martínez comenzó su carrera federal con la Fuerza Aérea como una secretaria estenógrafa en la base de la Fuerza Aérea de Lackland, Texas, lo cual la preparó para sus puestos de liderazgo futuros en el Ministerio del Interior y la Agencia de Protección Ambiental de Estados Unidos en Washington D.C. retención y desarrollo de hispanos en
el gobierno federal.

Shirley Martínez fue muy dedicada a servir a la juventud y a promover el liderazgo en derechos civiles, y en organizaciones religiosas y educativas. La revista Hispanic Business Magazine la nombró una de las Top 100 Latinas en 2003.
